Aja Grooms, born and raised in the Florida Panhandle, has been singing for as long as she could begin saying all of the words to The Little Mermaid's "Part of Your World." The daughter of a musician, she was encouraged by her parents to pursue her love of singing, and she has been in various school and honor choirs since age 7. She also has participated in several school and community productions, including South Pacific, Bye, Bye, Birdie (Kim MacAfee), and Seussical the Musical (Gertrude McFuzz). In 2015, Aja earned a B.M. in music performance from the University of Central Florida, studying as a soprano with Dr. Jeremy Hunt. While at UCF, Aja was a member of the National Association for Music Educators, the University and Chamber choirs, the student Opera Club, and the UCF Opera Workshop. The UCF Opera Workshop provided Aja the opportunity to intensively study language, movement, staging, and acting, as well as perform many contrasting roles in scenes and operas. Most recently, she performed the role of Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. In 2014, Aja was the winner of the UCF Concerto/Aria competition, and she had the amazing opportunity to perform the famous Doll Aria with the UCF orchestra. After graduating, Aja was a guest soloist for the televised BattleFrog Race Series in Orlando, as well as for the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball team. One of the highlights of her summer was performing alongside the UCF Chamber singers live with the Rolling Stones! As a teacher, Aja believes in discovering the learning style of each individual, experimenting and trying new techniques to fit each student's needs. She loves to work with students on anything and everything, from musicality and theory to language and acting. In her spare time, Aja loves to spend time with her bird. She'll tell you all about him if you ask (and even if you don't.)
Aja Grooms is currently not instructing any classes.
