Ana Caban

Ana Caban began her music training during elementary school on the island of Puerto Rico. Her first instrument was the soprano recorder and she also was taught how to sing in the school choir. After graduating into 7th grade at age 12, she applied and assisted Escuela Libre de Music in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico where she was discovered to have perfect pitch ability. She never met the great cellist Pablo Casals, but by learning about his residence and reputation, she decided to pick up the cello. In 1993 she auditioned and was selected to perform for world famous cellist Yo-Yo-Ma in a master class which took place in Melbourne, Florida. After her master class she decided to study cello more seriously so she continued her college courses, graduating in 1998 from the Florida State University School of Music. Shortly later that year she wanted to continue studying more string technique so she moved to Portugal and traveled to the city of Madrid in Spain. In Madrid she studied with Maria de Macedo (Assistant professor of Jano Starker and Pierre Fournier). In 2008 Ana moved to Henderson, Nevada (Las Vegas Area) where she was reminded again of her perfect pitch ability while attending Graduate Level Music Education courses at University of Las Vegas. She has picked up the violin and viola as well as all the instruments from the viol family (antecessor of violin family). While in Nevada she also worked as a private music teacher at a local private music school and performed occasionally at weddings and events, with most of her students passing challenging exams or auditions. More recently she has moved to Orlando, where she has joined the Viol Club of Central Florida, and for symphonic rehearsals for the world premiere of Beauty and the Beast performed by the Orlando Ballet.

Ana Caban is currently not instructing any classes.
