Alex Lewis

Alex Lewis is a jazz musician and trumpet player in Orlando, Florida. He grew up in the Central Florida area and holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance in Jazz Studies from the University of Central Florida. Alex received training and instruction there from John Almeida and Jeff Rupert.
Alex played in the UCF Flying Horse Big Band in all four trumpet chairs, including lead and solo playing, and played as the 3rd trumpet chair in the UCF Wind Ensemble. He was featured as a soloist in the UCF Flying Horse Big Band during the recording of their most recent album, Into the Mystic. Alex qualified as one of six finalists for the Performance Excellence competition held at UCF in the Fall of 2015.
Alex was formally introduced to music in the fourth grade when his father began to insist that his children learn how to read music and understand basic music theory. In the sixth grade, his parents urged him to try out the band program, stressing that he was free to quit if he disliked it after one year. Alex stayed in the band program through high school, and knew by his sophomore year that he wanted to focus on playing the trumpet. After graduating high school in 2012 he began studying at the University of Central Florida, majoring in Music Education. He earned the 3rd trumpet chair in the UCF Flying Horse Big band during his first semester in college, and was thrown head-first into the world of jazz music.
Being surrounded by aspiring jazz musicians and immersed in the history and spirit of the music prompted Alex to grow a deep affinity for jazz over the course of his first year in college. After much convincing from colleagues, extracurricular study, and involvement with the Jazz Studies program, Alex decided to switch his full focus to trumpet performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies for his second year. From there he continued to improve at a steady rate, recording 2 professional albums, performing with Josh Groban, and becoming a featured soloist in the Flying Horse Big Band along the way. He graduated from UCF in 2016, and now freelances in the Central Florida area. He is determined to achieve his full potential throughout his life as a soloist, section player, and most importantly as a musician and human being.

Alex Lewis is currently not instructing any classes.
