Music Lessons

for all ages & skill levels

MUSIC LESSONS WE TEACH

our programs

All of our music classes employ our specialized performance-based teaching techniques, including private music lessons and group rehearsals. Orlando School of Music aims to guide its students through a step-by-step process that will lead them towards the ultimate goal of performing live in front of an audience.

Piano Lessons

for ages four & up

Our piano teachers teach a variety of styles from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn Bach or Alicia Keys, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be.

Our piano faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, but they will also incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons.

You do not have to have a piano at home to take lessons. A simple full size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months. Our piano teachers have warm personalities and enjoy sharing their love for the piano with you. Watch this video to learn more about our piano lessons.

Guitar, Bass Guitar Lessons

for ages six and up

Our guitar teachers teach rock, latin, jazz, blues, metal, country, and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory.

We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song.

We use a variety of guitar method books to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes. Watch this video to learn more about our guitar lessons.

Voice Lessons

fourth grade and up

Our voice teachers focus on pop, classical, or musical theater depending on the student’s needs. If you have always wanted to be a better Latin, rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you.

Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more.

All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice.

Drum Lessons

for ages six and up

Our drum instructors teach rock, latin, metal, jazz, funk, blues, and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort.

All drummers bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons and theory is encouraged. We have many drum students who play in local bands be it in rock clubs or their local churches. You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons.

Beginning students can learn with just a drum pad and sticks. Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook. In addition to drums we teach congas, timbales, and bongos.

Woodwind Instrument Lessons

fourth grade and up

Our flute, clarinet, and saxophone teachers will help you become well versed in the styles of jazz, classical, pop, and/or marching band according to your needs. All of our students learn how to read music and understand all the different dynamic, articulation, and other musical markings.

Together with your teacher, you will be able to set goals and strive towards them, whether it be to make 1st chair in your school band, make the all-county or all-state jazz band, or to learn how to play popular movie soundtracks for fun! If you don’t already have an instrument, we can arrange to let you use one of ours out for the first lesson. Then, you would be able to rent one through our rent-to-own program.

Brass Instrument Lessons

fourth grade and up

Our trumpet, trombone, and/or tuba teachers will help you get the right sound, build lung capacity, and understand how to read music. Students can learn learn both jazz and classical styles with the custom-tailored curriculum.

Several of our students have earned spots in the all-county and all-state bands, where they compete with hundreds of other students in the state! If you don’t already have a trumpet or trombone, we can arrange to let you use one of ours out for the first lesson. Then, you would be able to rent one through our rent-to-own program.

String Instrument Lessons

for ages six and up

Our string teachers provide instruction for violin, viola, cello, and/or double bass. You will learn learn the correct posture, technique, and tuning for your instrument.

In the beginning, the focus will be on understanding how to produce the right sound; then you will have the opportunity to learn and perform some beautiful and fun repertoire!

If you don’t already have a violin, viola, or cello, we can arrange to let you use one of ours out for the first lesson. Then, you would be able to rent one through our rent to own program. Many of our string students currently participate in the highest level string orchestras in their schools! Watch this video to learn more about our string lessons.

Rock Band Sessions

for teens and up

When you join one of our rock bands, you have the chance to apply what you learn in your private lessons in a group setting. Students can choose to audition for existing groups or decide to create their own.

Typically our bands include guitar, drums, and bass; however, they are not limited to instrumentation and we also encourage participation from pianists, vocalists, horn players, and string players.

By joining a band, you will learn how to improvise, listen and blend with fellow musicians, learn different styles of music, and have several opportunities to perform outside of the school.

Our Terms & Policies

Lesson Policies (effective Jan. 1, 2022)

There is a $35 registration fee for each student at the time of registration.  Additional family members pay $25 for registration. Students who suspend their lessons for greater than one year must re-register.

All of our programs are based on a month-to-month commitment. Payment for the full month of lessons is due on the first day of the month (this is when your auto-bill occurs). If a student begins lessons in the middle of the month, the remaining lessons in the current month are prorated.

$139 per month for 30-minute lessons, $208.50 per month for 45 minute lessons, and $268 per month for 60 minute lessons. This rate is based on four lessons per month. When there is a 5th week in the month, an additional lesson will be charged separately to your account on a prorated basis ($34.75 for 30 min; $52.13 for 45 min; $67.00 for 60 min), also on the 1st of the month. If there are fewer than four lessons in the month (when the School is closed), you may schedule a make-up class for that missed lesson.

For additional family members the rates are as follows: $129 per month for 30-minute lessons, $198.50 per month for 45 minute lessons, and $258 per month for 60 minute lessons. This is based on four lessons per month. An additional lesson (when there is a 5th week) will be charged separately to your account on a prorated basis ($32.25 for 30 min; $49.63 for 45 min; $64.50 for 60 min) also on the 1st of the month. Additional family member discount is only offered when family is setup for monthly auto-billing.  If there are fewer than four lessons in the month (when the School is closed), you may schedule a make-up class for that missed lesson.

All students over the age of 13 are required to take 45 or 60-minute lessons.  This is due to the nature of warm-up times, etc. This is a requirement of our voice instructors.

Each student is required to purchase and bring the following to each lesson:

1. An acceptable student, intermediate or professional instrument (Pianos/Keyboards/Drum Sets do not need to be brought to lessons.  Toy instruments cannot be used). If you need to purchase or rent and instrument, please discuss this with us. We are very knowledgeable and can direct you to purchase a quality instrument for your student.

2. Music method book(s) – the exact type of book(s) the student will need will be determined by their instructor on the first lesson. These are available at all of our locations and can be billed to your payment method on file.

3. Metronome

4. Tuner (excl. piano, drums and voice)

5. Spiral-bound notebook for writing lesson assignments and notes

24 hours of notice must be given in order to reschedule a lesson. Same day cancellations prior to the lesson due to sickness/emergency can receive a courtesy make-up lesson 3 times per year. Rescheduled lessons and make-up lessons must be scheduled NO LATER than 3 months after the date of the original lesson. Courtesy make-up lessons will NOT be given for missing lessons without giving any advanced notice. There are no credits or refunds given for missed lessons. Missed lessons cannot be “credited” towards future lessons. Lessons for any teacher absence will be covered either by a substitute on the regular lesson day, or a post make up will be scheduled with the student. Once a Courtesy Make-Up Lesson has been scheduled, it cannot be rescheduled. The Avalon School of Music also reserves the right to reschedule any makeup/rescheduled lesson/class for new students requesting to enroll. All scheduling is handled by the front desk.

All registered students are required to enroll in our secure auto-bill system. This is a safe, secure and convenient way to pay your ongoing tuition while enrolled at the school. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, AMEX, Check Cards, and ACH (bank draft). We will automatically bill your card on the 1st day of every month. For multiple students and/or instruments, your account will be billed separately for each.

We have a late payment fee policy of $20. If payment is not received by the 7th day of the month it is considered late and the fee will automatically be applied, no exceptions. It is the students/parents responsibility to ensure we have a current credit/debit card or Bank Draft on file for auto-bill purposes.

We require a filled out “Student Status Change” form by the 7th day of the current month to suspend your lesson billing. If the form is not turned in by the 7th day of the current month before lessons are being suspended, then the student/parent will be responsible for the next full month’s tuition, no exceptions.
